Gum Tree

Gum Tree

« Previous   Main  Next »

March 26th, 2007. 4th & South Streets. Philadelphia, PA.

This is one of several colorful 'gum trees' on the 300 block of South Street in Philly. This particular tree is in front of the Theater of Living Arts. I'm not sure when this tradition started but it seems that everyone who has ever chewed gum on that block deposited it on one of the trees because they are covered from top to bottom. It doesn't hurt the tree as far as I can tell and it is kind of a cool communal art installation.

Hey, it's better than on the bottom of your Birkenstocks...hippie.
